Asif

Irfan Asif, MD
Vice Chair of Academics and Research
Sports Medicine Fellowship Director in the
Department of Family Medicine within the
Greenville Health System


Dr. Asif is the Vice Chair of Academics and Research, as well as, the Sports Medicine Fellowship Director in the Department of Family Medicine within the Greenville Health System. He has completed the prestigious National Institute for Program Director Development (NIPDD) fellowship program through the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors. He has served as a team physician for all levels of athletics, including high school, collegiate, and professional sports programs. He is also the Associate Editor for Sports Health: A Multidisciplinary Approach.
He is a dedicated member of American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM), currently serving on the Board of Directors, and has provided service on the Research, Fellowship, Public Relations, and Annual Meeting Program Planning (Program Chair 2014-2015) Committees. His research has earned honors within sports medicine (2010 AMSSM Best Overall Research Award, 2011 Harry L. Galanty Young Investigators Award) and primary care as a whole (2014 UT GSM Excellence & Leadership in Clinical Research, 2012 Society of Teachers for Family Medicine Best Overall Research Paper). Current investigations explore several domains within sports cardiology, such as the epidemiology of sudden cardiac death in high school and collegiate athletes, a prospective multi-site ECG screening study across all three NCAA divisions, and understanding the psychological impact of cardiovascular screening in young athletes. These scientific contributions have been highlighted internationally during invited lectures to the Spanish Olympic Committee in 2012, the 2014 International Olympic Committee World Conference on the Prevention of Injury & Illness in Sport, and a special seminar on Exercise as Medicine in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Asif was also selected for the 1st AMSSM Traveling Fellowship Program (2014) and recently completed a tour of the high level and Olympic sports programs in Australia.
As a teacher, Dr. Asif is committed to education and has been awarded the STFM Resident Teaching Award (2010) and the University of Tennessee Faculty Teaching Award (2012). He has served as the chair of the AMSSM Sports Medicine In-Service Training Exam (ITE) subcommittee, which writes the ITE yearly to prepare sports medicine physicians to pass the Sports Medicine CAQ Exam. Currently, he is the chair of the AMSSM Fellowship Committee.

Aside from typical orthopedic conditions, such as knee and shoulder injuries, he enjoys caring for medical conditions in athletes and physically active individuals such as sports concussions, cardiac arrest, heat illness, and many others. He is proficient in musculoskeletal ultrasound and many new treatment modalities in sports medicine.


 

Franklin

Sandra Franklin has been Director of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center Library (WHSC Library), Emory University, since 2002.  The library includes a campus site and three hospital branch libraries.  She engages the WHSC Library staff in strategic thinking and visioning to establish sustainable services and programs for the communities served.  As a member of the University Librarian's Cabinet, Sandra contributes to strategic planning and visioning for the Emory Libraries.
Sandra currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Medical Library Association and is a former board member of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries.  She is a Past Chair of the Medical Library Association's Southern Chapter and of the Consortium of Southern Biomedical Libraries (CONBLS).  Sandra is a Woodruff Leadership Academy Fellow and a Distinguished Member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals.


 

Jones

Shannon Jones joined the Medical University of South Carolina Libraries faculty in 2014 as the Assistant Director for Program Development and Resource Integration. She was appointed Director of MUSC Libraries in 2016. As Director of Libraries, Shannon is responsible for the vision, leadership, and management of all aspects of the library including strategic planning, budgeting, technology integration, facility management and operation, and personnel. Prior to her arrival at MUSC, Shannon worked as the Associate Director for Research and Education at the Tompkins-McCaw Library for the Health Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond.  Shannon received a Masters in Library Science from North Carolina Central University. In addition, to the MLS, Shannon also holds a BA in English from North Carolina State University, a Masters in Information Science from NCCU, and a M.Ed. in Adult Learning from Virginia Commonwealth University.


 

Riley

University of South Carolina School of Medicine


Ruth A. Riley, M.S. was appointed Director of Library Services at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in January 2000 and subsequently appointed as Assistant Dean for Executive Affairs in 2012.  Ms. Riley was previously at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she served for five years as Associate Director of the Library. Prior to that time she was Coordinator of Information Management Education & Database Services at the Alfred Taubman Medical Library of the University of Michigan, and Information Services Librarian at the J. Otto Lottes Health Sciences Library of the University of Missouri. Ms. Riley completed the B.A. in sociology at the University of Kansas and the M.S. in library and information science at the University of Illinois.  Ms. Riley is presently serving as President of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL) and has served as Chair of the Southern Chapter of the Medical Library Association (MLA) and Chair of the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL).


 

Skarupski

Kimberly A. Skarupski, Ph.D., M.P.H., is the Associate Dean for Faculty Development in the Office of Faculty Development and an Associate Professor in Medicine (Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology) in the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.

Dr. Skarupski first started working in faculty development in 2006 at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago IL where she directed the Rush Research & Teaching Mentoring Programs. Since joining Hopkins in 2013, she has focused her efforts on small group methods to increase scholarly productivity, build confidence, and foster community. Her team in the Office of Faculty Development provides a wide range of faculty development offerings in the academic career continuum, including: new faculty orientation; seminars and workshops in the promotion pathway areas of education, research, clinical distinction, and program building; senior faculty/transitioning; work-life integration; and exit interviews. She also leads and participates in numerous leadership development programs for trainees and faculty members.  

Dr. Skarupski is also an associate professor in the Department of Medicine – Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology – and is an Associate Faculty affiliate with the Center on Aging and Health (COAH). As a trained social gerontologist and program evaluator, the major theme running throughout Dr. Skarupski’s 20-year research career has been the quality of life in older adults, using data from large-scale epidemiologic studies to examine disparities in quality of life in this population, as well as the contribution of various social and psychological determinants of quality of life in older age.

M.J. Tooey
Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs

M.J. Tooey is Associate Vice President, Academic Affairs and Executive Director of the Health Sciences and Human Services Library at the University of Maryland where she has worked in various library positions since 1986.  She is also the Director of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine’s Southeastern/Atlantic Regional Medical Library and the National DOCLINE Coordinating Office under a cooperative agreement with the National Library of Medicine at NIH.  She received her MLS from the University of Pittsburgh.

Tooey served as president of the Medical Library Association (MLA, 2005-2006), is a Fellow of the association and was the 2016 Janet Doe Lecturer.  She has also served as president of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL, 2012-2013).

She is the 2011 recipient of Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Information Sciences.

Tooey is the author or co-author of over 100 chapters, articles, presentations or posters.  Her professional interests include leadership, emerging trends, library innovation and design, ethics, and mentoring.
