Library Hosts National Library of Medicine Traveling Exhibit

And There's the Humor of it: Shakespeare and the Four Humors

The School of Medicine Library is proud to host a nationally traveling exhibit entitled "And There's the Humor of It: Shakespeare and the Four Humors." The six banner exhibit is on loan to us from the National Library of Medicine from July 25th through September 3rd, and is currently on display in the library near the circulation desk.

From the exhibit's website:
"William Shakespeare (1564–1616) created characters that are among the richest and most humanly recognizable in all of literature. Yet Shakespeare understood human personality in the terms available to his age—that of the now-discarded theory of the four bodily humors—blood, bile, melancholy, and phlegm. These four humors were thought to define peoples’ physical and mental health, and determined their personalities, as well. "And there’s the humor of it" Shakespeare and the four humorsexplores the language of the four humors that bred the core passions of anger, grief, hope, and fear—the emotions conveyed so powerfully in Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies."

Journal Citation Reports 2016 Edition Available Now

Journal Citation Reports (JCR), the database that helps you compare citation data for thousands of journals, has been updated with 2015 citation data.
The 2016 release, with 2015 citation data for literature within the sciences and social sciences, features 11,365 journal listings in 234 disciplines; 81 countries are represented. A total of 239 journals received their first Journal Impact Factor (JIF); 57 percent of journals saw an increase in JIF from last year and 42 percent saw a decrease. This release of the JCR also includes a new category, Green & Sustainable Science & Technology.

A list of journals receiving their first Impact Factor is available at: http://scientific.thomsonreuters.com/imgblast/JCR-newlist-2016.pdf
JCR is available in the Databases area of Library website.

Changes to E-Textbooks Page

The Library is pleased to announce a change to our E-Textbooks page.  Previously Library staff maintained a page with links to E-Textbook titles from a variety of sources such as publisher, aggregator, and government or public web sites.  Because of the sheer volume of titles for which we have acquired access, the list of titles had grown unwieldy.  We have created a new search interface for E-Textbooks that provides with you significantly better access to over 250,000 e-books currently available to the USC community.

New etextbook page image

Now when you follow the “E-Textbooks” link from the Library home page, you see a new page that features a simple search box.  Using this search interface you can quickly search the thousands of E-Text titles for which we have access.  The basic search is Keyword search, but after you search you can use the modify search box to calibrate the search results by date of publication or other data.

You will still find quick links to some of our more popular E-text resources, such as Clinical Key, Access Medicine, and Harrison’s Online.  But to search our E-text collections as a whole, please use this new search feature.  We feel this new feature will help you in your E-Textbook discovery.
