The IACUC has established a series of on-line training modules for investigators which
must be completed before animal use will be allowed. A notice will be sent to the
IACUC when an investigator completes a module so that it may be entered in the training
database. You must call Animal Resources at 777-8106 for the username and
password for the courses, then follow the link below to the LATA training site.
On-line Training
The IACUC has several other policies concerning animal use which investigators must be familiar with:
By federal law the IACUC must include, at minimum, the following members:
- One veterinarian, with training or experience in laboratory animal science and medicine, who has direct or delegated program responsibility
for activities that involve animals at the University of South Carolina
- At least one practicing scientist with experience in research with animals
- One member whose primary concerns are non-scientific
- One individual who is not otherwise affiliated with the University of South Carolina and is not a member of the immediate family of a person
who is affiliated with the University of South Carolina
The committee is charged with the review of all research protocols and funding proposals involving laboratory animals. Individuals who expect
to conduct in vivo research must submit a description of their proposed procedures.
The committee may suspend an activity that is not being conducted in accordance with applicable provisions of the Animal Welfare Act,
the NIH Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, or the University of South Carolina's Assurance or policies. |
